A book of 23 poems in various styles written in conjunction with AI. Each poem was the general first response to the question: Please write a poem in the style of X about his/her revulsion to AI. I was shocked by the first poem in the style of Bukowski. Damn, I thought, that is really good. As the author, I find the book fascinating. Poetry, of which I have almost no previous history writing, is one of the great endeavors of human artistic creation. Is AI better than humans in writing poetry? Well, you can judge for yourself.
This compilation of poems spans from Homer to Tolstoy to Dr. Suess to Cyndi Lauper. It’s humorous in it’s flaws and beautiful in it’s successes. It’s a case study in AI. It’s also a tool that allowed me to write this book in less than 4 hours, with no previous poetry writing experience.
I promise you’ll laugh. The threads that extend from poem to poem are ridiculous and then poignant. Is the style of a 7 year old girl and Kanye West really that similar? AI thinks so. Fascinating to me was how quickly the poems were written, except for the style of Dr.Suess. AI balked at the request for a poem in the style of Dr. Suess; taking almost to minutes to compose.
I hope this work gives greater insight into both the power of AI and it’s limitations.
